12. Gratitude visit…

Context: This exercise explores how services can use their appreciation and gratitude to build their own character.

When to use: This exercise is used when practitioners work with men to deepen understanding about their appreciation of others who impact on their life.

Conducting the exercise: Ask the person to close their eyes and think of someone early in their life who they greatly appreciate and valued but never told them so. Ask them to write down 300 words about this reflection. Ask them to make a decision to visit that person and share this reflection with them.

Extension questions:

  1. What do you appreciate about this person?

  2. What will it be like to say this directly to the person?

  3. What impact will this decision have on you?
