Workers in many different settings have clients disclose to them very difficult experiences they have had in the past.

It can sometimes be hard to know what to do or say in these situations. Clients may tell workers about events in the distant past, for example being abused as a child or being injured in an accident or as victim of crime.   Clients may also tell workers about very recent events or circumstances, for example, living in a household where they are being assaulted and abused in other ways or the client may arrived at a service immediately following an assault.

This 3-hour webinar will provide the participants with simple, clear guidelines on how to respond during a disclosure and how to support a client following a disclosure.

The aim of the training is to help the participants develop the skills to effectively respond to any disclosure made by an adult or a young person by setting out a process that can be followed to support a client during and following any disclosure.

 The webinar will cover:

•       Understanding your duty of care

•       The importance of knowing your role and remaining within your role

•       How to help manage the client's focus to assist them to help reduce their distress during a disclosure

•       Effective ways of supporting the client following a disclosure

•       Ensuring your own well-being during and after a disclosure by a client

 Detailed notes will be provided.

The focus of the training will be on working with adults and young people.
