When participants enter a group learning situation they often express a ‘safe’ purpose or reason for being in the group that mirrors the original and advertised purpose of the program. However, there is often a secondary purpose that underlies this initial purpose. The secondary purpose includes the emotional unease a person experiences and actually motivates them to attend the group. If the person is to fully committed to learning in the group, this secondary purpose needs to be valued, recognised and addressed.

Group dynamics and change - Campbell Town, Tasmania

Date: 01-Sep-2010

The Grange, Campbell Town, Tasmania - Wednesday 1st September 2010 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

This workshop draws on theory and skills that group leaders can use to deal with the undercurrents experienced in groups.  Dynamics are often a powerful force that either stops or supports the outcomes of a group being achieved.

These dynamics, forbidden agendas or invisible loyalties often prevent group members from behaving constructively. They are either formed throughout the life of the group, or emerge from issues in the past or arise outside the group.

Participants will:
* explore models for working with group dynamics
* identify ways that work teams or groups fail to warm up to achieving their purpose
* practice skills used to deal with issues in the here-and-now
* use of sociometry and social choices to understand group connections

When: Wednesday 1st September 2010 from 9.30am to 4.30pm

Where:
The Grange Meeting and Function Centre, 87 High St (Midlands Hwy) Campbell Town, Tasmania
